This is a loaded question when thinking in terms of all the possible things that God wants from us. There are so many ways that you can respond to this question. Some may say God wants me to surrender. Some may say God wants me to do his will. Some may say that God wants me to become a missionary. Some may say God desires for me to teach the gospel, write a book, start a women’s group, or maybe even a podcast. I am sure we could all come up with some answer as to what we think God wants from us. The question I have for you to consider is; Have you ever even asked God what he wants from you? In the time you spend in prayer, has that question ever really come up? The even greater question that rises to the surface of my mind is; Do we really want to know? Sometimes, it might seem easier to just keep doing what we want in hopes that it is what God wants from us. It might seem easier, but I am learning that most of the time, if not all of the time, what God wants from us tends to be something that stretches us. What God wants from us is not something we can give without surrendering all that we are to him. It is in full surrender that we are able to discover what God really wants from us.

It seems like the most simple question, but it can be the scariest question to ask. You might be thinking,”What if he tells me to give up something to do what he wants me to do”? Maybe just maybe the things that he is asking you to give up are the things that are standing in front of what he really wants from you. Have you considered that what God truly wants from us all is our hearts? Now, you might be thinking I gave him my heart when I received him as my personal savior, and that is true. Did you know it is possible to give God pieces of our hearts but not our whole hearts even when we receive him into it. God oftentimes shows us parts of our hearts that are not completely surrendered to him, and those parts are what can keep us from totally surrendering our whole self to his desire for us. In scripture, Matthew 6:21 says, ”For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. This scripture leads me to believe that our heart is where we hold all things that we consider valuable. This further leads me to the conclusion that the things we give access to our hearts are the things that we value. Are you beginning to see a little as to why God wants our hearts. Let’s look at a few more like Psalms 9:1 that says, “I will give thanks to you, Lord with all my heart, I will tell of all your wonderful deeds”. I truly believe that in order to give God thanks with all of our hearts, he needs to take up total residence in our whole heart. There is nothing in our hearts hidden from him because he is in control of it all.

I’ve felt like I had given God my whole heart, but lately, I’ve been feeling like maybe there are still places in my heart that need surrendering. I’ve noticed that lately, I’ve been quick to choose other things first before him. I’ve felt like other things are taking up space in my heart where he belongs. I still love him and serve him, but I want to make sure my whole heart remains surrendered to his will. When we have a heart posture of surrender, we are willing to give up, lay aside, put down, or let go of anything that keeps us from pleasing God. God is desperate for our hearts. God knows once he gets your heart that he truly has you. All of your heart given to him takes away the striving to please him. I believe you begin to operate from the place of thriving, knowing that your life pleases him.

So in closing I want to ask you the question I asked in the beginning. What does God really want from you? Maybe a place to start is asking him to show you any part of your heart that is not surrendered to him. Maybe your afraid that you can’t do what he is wanting you to do. In your own strength you can’t but through Christ you can. God loves you so much and he just wants your whole heart without reservations. I’m so glad your here. I’m grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside you as we continue to walk into the light.
